Workers are deepening a boat basin at Jesup on the Altamaha River as part of an upgrade in Gov. Sonny Perdue's Go Fish Georgia initiative. The basin at Jaycee Landing is being deepened so a huge ramp can be built. The area is scheduled to host a fishing tournament in May.By Associated Press (12/31/2010) Read more at http://www.wrcbtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=13764169 (http://www.wrcbtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=13764169).

Georgia Fish Consumption Guidelines

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has published a booklet presenting guidelines for the consumption of fish caught in Georgia's lakes, streams and estuarine systems. In addition to general suggestions for safe consumption, the guidelines identify suggested restrictions on eating certain fish from some of Georgia's water bodies.

Fishing Licenses - Increased Fees, Fewer Vendors

The big news in Georgia fishing this week has to be the announcement by DNR that an out-of-state firm has been hired to process fishing license purchases and renewals (along with hunting licenses and small boat registrations). I’ve read reports on this development in several Georgia newspapers (links can be found at the end of this article) and there appear to be three main complaints: fee increases for license processing, fees being sent out-of-state, and the loss of 80% of the license retailers who are going to be booted out of the system by Missouri Central Bank.
